Thoughts From the Sidelines

Back down to earth

November 21, 2014

The Philadelphia Eagles were dominated by the Green Bay Packers from start to finish last Sunday. I had a terrible feeling about this game even before it started. And I was right! It was pretty much over before the first quarter had ended when the Packers were up 17-0 after returning a punt for a touchdown. Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers was barely even touched by the Eagles' defense for the whole game. Rogers seemed to be able to do whatever he wanted. For the Eagles, quarterback Mark Sanchez couldn't keep up with Rogers at all. Sanchez has to play better against Tennessee on Sunday for the Eagles to get a win. The only saving grace for the Eagles was the fact that this was not a playoff game, which it could be later in January. The final score was 53 - 20 , and it wasn't even that close.

Since the Eagles were such a disappointment last week, I thought why not talk about the Philadelphia Phillies? There is possibly significant news as there is a Cuban player who has defected to the United States. His name is Yasmany Tomas and he is a very good outfielder. I have heard a lot of rumors that the Phillies are very interested in him. He would be the first Cuban defector to play for the Phillies. As everyone knows, the Phils need all the help they can get! I hope this rumor comes true. I have also heard that Cole Hamels is on the trading block. I hope that the Phillies really think about this before pulling the trigger on a trade involving him, especially with Cliff Lee coming off an injury-plagued season.

Congratulations to the girls' hockey team at Cape. Four straight state championships is more than impressive! Many of these girls also play lacrosse for Cape. Now is the time to keep the women's sports dynasty going with some off-season workout routines so the Viking ladies will be ready to "bring it on" for another championship title at Cape this spring.
