I was watching the Dallas game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday when Dez Bryant made that incredible fourth quarter, fourth down "non-catch". The NFL rule on this issue is way too complicated. To me it looked like he had control of the ball long enough for the reception to count. If that catch had counted, Dallas would have had a great opportunity for a go ahead score on the next set of downs with four minutes or so left for Green Bay to respond. The last few minutes would have been very interesting to watch, but we weren't afforded the chance to see what would surely have been a more exciting ending.
That said, I will be rooting for Green Bay to win the Super Bowl even though I don't think it is very likely with how injured Aaron Rogers is at this moment. I was rooting for the Denver Broncos to make it to the Super Bowl again with Peyton Manning as quarterback. I hope he decides to come back one more year so that last week's performance is not the last memory we have of him playing football.
Ohio State's performance in the College championship game was very impressive. After the first drive of the game, the Buckeye defense got used to Oregon's fast-paced offense and proceeded to slow the Ducks down for the rest of the game. Brand-new, third string (are you kidding!!) quarterback Cardale Jones was amazing during all three games he played. He reminds me of the the late Houston Oilers/ Tennessee Titans quarterback Steve "Air" McNair from the late 90s early 2000's. If Cardale does not get hurt, he will be a very high NFL draft pick some day.
There's only one month until baseball spring training starts. This is good news. I hope the Phillies make a final decision on Cole Hamels' status before February. It would be very unfair to him, as their best player, to leave him in limbo if a trade is in the works so close to the start of the season.
I am very hopeful that this week's snow will be the only event this winter. Either that or we have a "real" system dump enough to make everyone stay put for a day or two! That's it from the sidelines.
