Phillies come falling back to Earth!
So much for the Phillies positive momentum, they're getting humbled this week in the series against the first place NY Mets.
They are now back in last place behind the Miami Marlins after being tied with them last week. In a side note, I hope the baseball owners come to their senses beginning next year with regard to fan safety. They need to expand the netting that is now only behind home plate to cover the area around the dugouts in every stadium.
The financial liability of fans being seriously injured by a foul ball or a broken bat should be an easy motivator to make some needed safety changes. Let's hope the new commissioner, Rob Manfred, has some real guts to take some action on this issue.
The Eagles looked great against the Baltimore Ravens in their second preseason game last Saturday. They won 42-17. The offense was going up and down the field with lots of Ravens penalties and turnovers going the Eagles way. We will see if they can maintain this pace during the regular season.
Their next preseason game will be good test against the Green Bay Packers, who should have represented the NFC in the Super Bowl last year. The starters for both teams will probably play the entire first half of the game. Should be a good one to watch.
In a somewhat surprising tennis result, Roger Federer beat Novak Djokovic in two straight sets last Sunday in a U.S. Open warm up tournament. I think it will be more difficult for Roger to beat Novak in the upcoming major tournament because of the best of five set format. Serena won her U.S. Open tune up tournament as well. A bit of history could be made if she stays motivated and injury free over the two weeks of the Open.
