Finally: A good win

October 16, 2015

On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles entire team played their most complete game of the season. In their 39 to 17 victory over the New Orleans Saints we were shown a much more balanced effort in terms of run/pass ratio, and the play calling overall was much less predictable. The Eagles took advantage of a very young New Orleans Saints secondary going up and down the field at will.

They could have scored more points if Sam Bradford did not throw two interceptions in the end zone. The Saints high-powered offense could not get on track to try and match the Eagles scoring output.

The Eagles defense is going to have to continue their consistent play on Monday Night Football against the New York Giants. Since the NFC East division is so inconsistent this year, for the Eagles, the game will be for a share of first place with only a .500 record at three and three. Wow!!

In golf last week, the Presidents Cup took place in Korea for the very first time. In order for the event to maintain its importance, the competition had to be close between the two teams. The US and International team organizers got their wish. The competition was very exciting for the week and the US team eeked out a victory, 15 and 1/2 points to 14 and 1/2 points overall. I was really struck by how respectful the Korean fans were to all the players on both teams.

In another cool story, Bill Haas, the son of U.S. Captain Jay Haas, clinched the cup for the US team in front of his father. The tournament was played in the same town where the Korean War started for the U.S. in 1950 in Incheon, South Korea.

I am very happy that for the next two years all of the international golf competitions will be played in the US. That way we won't have to deal with the crazy broadcast times related to events on the other side of the world.

This Thursday night's elimination game between the NY Mets and the LA Dodgers will close out the division series for both the AL and NL. In Wednesday's deciding game five between the Toronto Blue Jays and Texas Rangers, José Bautista of the Blue Jays hit a long home run to go ahead in the game.

It reminded me of Joe Carter's home run in the 1993 World Series to beat the Phillies. The Blue Jays have advanced to the ALCS for the the first time since then. The Kansas City Royals are one step away from their second World Series in a row. In the National League, the Chicago Cubs won their playoff series at home for the first time in their history to advance to the NLCS.
