Thoughts from the sidelines

The Eagles keep it going

December 18, 2015

On Sunday, the Eagles beat the Buffalo Bills (SORRY BRIAN) in a very close and tension filled game. The two teams are very well matched: they're both pretty mediocre.

If the Eagles make the playoffs by winning the very poor NFC East division, they will most likely lose the first playoff game anyway. In the game against the Bills, for once, the Eagles offense and defense played pretty well in the same game. Quarterback Sam Bradford had a consistent, but not fantastic game. His recent efforts are helping his cause if he wants to return next year.

This week's game will be a huge challenge against Arizona, who could easily represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. For that reason, the Eagles game has been moved to prime time at eight o'clock on Sunday on NBC. Let the Eagles PLEASE not embarrass their fans!

Even though it's December, there was a lot of baseball news this past week. First of all, the Phillies decided to trade their closer, Ken Giles, to the Houston Astros for four players who are supposed to be pretty good. I don't think we will be getting the next Craig Biggio or Jeff Bagwell, but we'll see.

In other baseball news, Pete Rose was denied his latest and probably last appeal to be reinstated into baseball by the new commissioner, Rob Manfred. I think the commissioner had to do this, because if you let Rose back in the game, there will be no point in having the "lifetime" ban for anybody who gambles on the sport while being a part of it.

I know Rose is an all-time great player, but that doesn't give him an excuse for what he did. This whole episode in baseball history is very sad.

Let's hope this warm weather sticks around!!
