Twelve different players scored goals and 18 of Cape’s 19 goals were assisted in the Vikings’ 19-0 win over Dover April 16.
The score at the end of the first quarter was 11-0, as the Cape girls’ lacrosse team entertained the kids in the stands on Youth Night at Champions Stadium. The hometown girls played the whole roster in the dominant win, and they roll into spring vacation with an 8-0-1 record.
Halftime pods of young lacrosse girls came onto the field for team relay races that involved ground ball pickups. The halftime happy times showed the Cape lacrosse feeder system is like satellite radio – the hits just keep coming.
Claire Lopez scored two goals and recorded six assists to bring her career point total to 200. There was a sideline sign, but no game-stopping ceremony.
Mairead Rishko and Macy Steinwedel each scored three goals in the game. Allaire Burton and Haley Gamuciello scored two apiece. Single goals were recorded by Amara Fruchtman, Mikaela Gordon, Regan Best, Lina Frederick, Mackenzie Todd, Quinn Nutter and Alley Diehl.
Rishko and Gamuciello led the way with three assists each. Fruchtman tallied two helpers. Assisting on one goal each were Burton, Gordon, Best and Frederick.
Abbey Schaeffer and Daisy Mastriana each had one save in goal.
Cape has six games left in the regular season before heading into the playoffs. The Vikings return to action Saturday, April 26, hosting Archmere (7-1) at 1:30 p.m.
“There are more good teams this year. It's going to be very competitive the rest of the way,” said Cape coach Lindsey Underwood.
