April 17, 2025

Cape senior Hayden Hudson went yard for the second straight game to lead the Vikings past Sussex Academy 7-0 April 16 at Cape’s Bill Cordrey Field. She also slammed a homer against Stephen Decatur April 14.

The Vikings got out of the chute first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run homer by Hudson. Cape got two insurance runs in the fourth inning and added three in the sixth.

“Our team has shown a lot of maturity, especially with believing in each other and pushing each other to do their very best,” said Cape coach Mike Tkach. “They share in everyone’s success and help pick each other up when there is some adversity.”

Cape senior Abby Marsh garnered her ninth win of the season, allowing four hits while striking out five and walking two.

“We can keep this going with our confidence,” said Marsh. “We push each other, and we also help each other on and off the diamond.”

Along with Hudson’s homer, fellow senior Bri Windish slammed a triple and Eden Frederick slugged two singles. Jordynn Bowe, Milena Buehler, Alivia Heers and Marsh each got a hit in the game. Ava Calciano collected three walks. Alivia Longo added an RBI.

“I think we have a really good team now,” said Heers. “Everyone is working hard. We’ve been playing together a long time. We really like each other, cheer each other on and push each other to get better.”

Grayce Glover slammed a double for the Seahawks, while Caroline White, Delainie Monitzer and Emma Orlen each had a single.

Carson Gesuero went the distance in the circle, allowing seven runs on eight hits, while walking eight and striking out six batters.

Sussex Academy hosts Woodbridge Thursday, April 17, then travels to Delaware Military Academy Saturday, April 19. Cape hosts Sussex Tech April 17, then Woodbridge Thursday, April 24.

“I think everyone knows we are talented and have a lot of experience, but we need to come ready to play at a high level every game because we’re going to get our opponent’s best,” Tkach said. “What’s been nice so far is that we are getting so many positives from so many people on our roster and not just one or two persons. From a coach’s viewpoint, we have been seeing things that we have talked about and rehearsed at practice being executed in game situations. We must continue to practice hard, rest when we can, and come ready to play every game.”
