Community food packing event set March 8
Rise Against Hunger Feeding the 5000 Multiplied will host its third annual community-wide food packing event Saturday, March 8, in the cafeteria at Sussex Central High School, 26026 Patriots Way, Georgetown.
During the last two years’ events, more than 640 volunteers packed 165,258 meals. This year’s goal is to pack up to 100,000 meals.
To date, financial support for the food and shipping costs to get these meals to needy children has been provided by Grace United Methodist Church in Millsboro and Long Neck Sunrise Rotary Club as well as numerous individual community contributors. Contributions totaling $40,000 are needed to support the 100,000-meal goal.
Setup will begin at 5 p.m., Friday, March 7. The March 8 packing event will have two packing sessions of three hours each, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. This is a hands-on food packing of soy, rice, dehydrated vegetables and vitamins. Individuals young and old, and families with children over the age of 5 can participate in this fun, music- and work-filled event.
Individuals, churches and businesses wishing to participate in this event can volunteer or contribute to this community food packaging event by going to events.riseagainsthunger.org/RAHSussex2025.
Checks can also be made payable to Rise Against Hunger, 108 Darby Commons Court, Folcroft, PA 19032, with Event #74725 included on the memo line.
