It’s been said that there’s a great calamity going on out there and no one’s paying attention. So it’s heartening to see that not only is Eric Burnley paying careful attention as he so well does, especially in terms of fishing and hunting and enjoying the outdoors, but, as typical, he’s sharing the truth with others. Over 2,000 of the world’s leading climatologists agree that the earth is warming and that this warming is due to human activity, our incessant use of gas and other fossil fuels. This warming leads to extreme weather, melting expanses of ice and a well-documented rise in sea level worldwide, especially here in Delaware.
The solutions are many; we just need to pay attention and respond. Let’s do all we can to respond, including appreciating nature through immersive activities like fishing and hunting and hiking and biking and bird-watching, supporting renewable energy (e.g., wind and solar), adjusting our thermostats, driving fuel-efficient vehicles more slowly, and recycling more and better.
Let’s all respond, and, by so doing, we’ll make a difference. Especially as residents of coastal towns, as residents living near the shore, we must take advantage of all the available solutions. Our children and theirs, and the natural world which sustains all of us will appreciate that we paid attention and responded.
