Delaware’s new first lady hosts brunch in Dewey Beach

January 30, 2025

Dr. Lauren Meyer, the new first lady of Delaware, hosted a brunch event featuring community leaders from across the state Jan. 19, at the Hyatt Place in Dewey Beach.

The brunch, which comprised Belgian waffles, omelets made to order and all the accoutrements, was served as guests mingled just prior to Meyer’s arrival. Complimentary mimosas, bloody marys, juice and coffee were provided, and live music by the Salisbury String Trio drifted through the air.

Meyer, who works as an emergency room doctor, spoke of the state of healthcare in Delaware, acknowledging the “incredible efforts of those who have dedicated themselves to advancing healthcare in our state.”

She also spoke of the strength and resilience of the state’s communities, and vowed that her position is not ceremonial in nature.

“There’s a lot of great people out there doing a lot of great things already, and I want to be a microphone for that, to amplify and add to that,” she said.

She said, “I see my role as a partner to Matt, but also to every Delawarean who believes we can do better. Together, we must not only identify the challenges we face but also come together to craft solutions that make a meaningful, lasting difference. Whether it’s advocating for affordable housing, improving school funding or ensuring quality healthcare for all, I will bring my experience and my voice to the table.”
