Delmarva Christian spiked by IR, digs deep to ace Sussex Academy

Royals volleyball set to play at home in four of five matches to end year
April 17, 2025

After losing a rematch with Indian River 3-1 April 14, Delmarva Christian bounced back to upend local rival Sussex Academy 3-1 April 15.

“Really good effort. We tip our hat to Indian River; they played a solid game,” said Royals coach Jim Berger. “A lot of times, we find ways to beat ourselves. We’ll have an unforced error at the wrong time in the middle of a long rally [or] we'll make a mental mistake. So until we can get past beating ourselves at times, it's going to be hard to beat the team on the other side of the net.”

The Royals were the team on the opposite side April 15, knocking off Sussex Academy 3-1.

Sussex Academy kicked things off by winning its first set of the year 26-24. The opening frame featured runs by both teams and some good action at the net, but a few errors from the Royals sealed it for Sussex Academy.

In the face of adversity, Delmarva Christian did not blink and rattled off three straight set wins (25-15, 25-12, 25-16) for its second win of the year.

Home could provide comfort for the 2-6 Royals, who will play four of their final five matches on Mohr Floor.
