First female Methodist bishop to address AAUW Feb. 20
AAUW Coastal-Georgetown Branch will meet at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 20, at The Lodge at Historic Lewes. Susan M. Morrison, the first female bishop in the United Methodist Church, will be the featured speaker.
Morrison is an active member of the local AAUW branch, where she facilitated the Great Decisions discussion group for several years.
Elected in 1988, Morrison was the first woman in the episcopacy for the Northeastern Jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church, where she served for eight years as bishop of the Philadelphia Area and 10 years as bishop of the Albany Area. While serving as bishop, she chaired the task force to develop a new social creed for the church.
Morrison has had a home in Rehoboth Beach since the late 1980s and retired to the area in 2006. She volunteers and enjoys gardening, travel, sports, movies and more.
