Free seminars set for senior adults, families
Noted experts from three local organizations will present seminars titled, Starting the Conversation: Important Discussions for Seniors and their Families, to offer guidance on the critical concerns of care options, elder law, and downsizing and relocation that seniors and their families face.
The free seminars will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Monday, Jan. 20, at Lewes Public Library, and Monday, Feb. 10, at Sussex Family YMCA in Rehoboth Beach.
Amy Feger and Karen Holstein from CarePatrol will discuss approaches to starting these discussions with aging loved ones and understanding the care options available to seniors. Feger is a certified senior advisor and owner of CarePatrol of Delaware and Maryland Eastern Shore. Holstein is a certified dementia practitioner and a senior advisor with CarePatrol. Both have extensive experience advising seniors on independent living, assisted living, memory care and in-home care.
Attorney Deirdre McCartney will walk families through important legal issues such as advance healthcare directives, powers of attorney and wills. Specializing in the areas of real estate, elder law and estate planning, McCartney is a partner with Sergovic Carmean Weidman McCartney & Owens, PA in Georgetown.
Stacey Himler will discuss the issues of senior downsizing and relocation. A certified relocation transition specialist and owner of Caring Transitions of Southern Delaware, Himler specializes in helping seniors declutter, downsize and resettle into smaller homes, apartments or long-term care communities throughout Sussex and Kent counties.
