Lewes DAR continues support for veterans and community

November 23, 2024

The Col. David Hall Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution has had a busy fall implementing its tenets of education, historic preservation and patriotism.

Members gathered to clean more than 50 gravestones at Lewes Presbyterian Church cemetery for the DAR Day of Service. The chapter made a second 2024 donation to the Lewes Public Library to promote youth literacy and education. Daughters participated in the America 250 statewide Lafayette Trail celebration. Many attended the state society meeting in October and collected food donations for the Dover Air Force Base USO.

Once a month, members provide homemade dinners for the men and women at the Home of the Brave facilities in Milford. DAR will give each veteran an Amazon gift card with the December meal.

The chapter observed Veterans Day by hanging a wreath during the Rehoboth ceremony.

At each chapter meeting, food items are collected for the Dover Air Force Base Airman's Attic to supplement non-deployed families with needed groceries. Veterans' holiday cards will be written to deliver to the Delaware Veterans Home in Milford, thanking residents for their service.

The chapter has inducted 12 new members in the last several months.
