A light in the darkness

April 11, 2025

At the beginning of the year, my wife was ill and we immediately went to Beebe Emergency Room for treatment. We were there overnight while they were testing and monitoring her. The next morning, she was released with a diagnosis and recovery plan.

I realized that I had a scheduled tennis session that morning and scrambled to get a substitute. Unfortunately, no one replied. I went to the session with little or no sleep. I collapsed while playing, and staff and members of Dave Marshall Pickleball & Tennis came to my rescue. While someone was performing CPR on me, I was found to have no pulse. The club’s defibrillator was attached to my chest, and my heart was shocked back into rhythm.

I was taken to Beebe to be treated. Later, I was admitted to the ICU to recover. I had surgery to place an ICD device in my chest to help protect from further incidents. I was released from the hospital and I’m currently in cardiac rehab.

I am eternally grateful to all of the staff and members of Dave Marshall, as well as all the staff and healthcare professionals at Beebe Emergency Room for saving my life that day. This is why I believe that people coming together can accomplish anything, even miracles.

People are the light and will overcome the darkness.
