Lunch group supports Slaughter Neck Community Action

January 24, 2025

Lunch with a Purpose Coastal Delaware gathered Jan. 8 at Atlantic Sands in Rehoboth Beach. Slaughter Neck Community Action in Lincoln hosted this month’s event in support of its community center and outreach program.

Roslyn Harris, community center director, gave a heartfelt thanks to Lunch with a Purpose, her helpers and all 185 attendees. Harris’s sister Kim Daniels joined her at the podium to sing a special message of love and kindness. They were overwhelmed by the great turnout in light of the snow and cold weather.

In a community disconnected from many local resources, the outreach program seeks to empower individuals and families to overcome challenges, achieve their goals, and thrive with a supportive and inclusive environment.

The community outreach program supports, youth, children, families and individuals who are socially and economically disadvantaged through its food pantry, community fun nights and community dinners. Adults ages 50 and up attend the center four days a week for a healthy breakfast, socialization and participation in various activities. At summer camp and after-school programs, students receive assistance with homework and take part in special projects. These free programs help parents know they have a safe place for their children to go while they are at work.

The event raised more than $7,400 in cash and approximately $2,500 in in-kind donations. In addition, 1,235 pounds of food items were collected for the food pantry.
