Man found dead in woods fire near Milford

A man was found dead April 23 after a woods fire near Milford.

The blaze was reported about 1 p.m. in the 3000 block of Big Stone Beach Road, and arriving firefighters with South Bowers Volunteer Fire Co. found a large outdoor fire burning out of control into the woods located behind a residence, officials said. While they were putting out the fire, officials said, a dead man was found in the burned area. The body was turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science for identification and cause of death.

The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the origin and cause of the fire. There were no other reported injuries, officials said, and damage is estimated at $250.
