Dewey Charter & Code Review Committee meets Dec. 11

The Dewey Beach Charter & Code Review Committee will meet at 5 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the Dewey Beach Lifesaving Station. 

The group will discuss recommendations regarding setbacks for dipping pools. 

Members will also discuss proposed legislation that would permit property owners to increase freeboard 1 foot with a corresponding increase in maximum height over the town-required freeboard with a the goal of increasing flood protection for properties. 

The committee will review several scenarios that include pre- and post-flood maps, conforming and nonconforming structures, and substantially damaged and voluntarily improved properties to clarify building height restriction. View the full agenda at townofdeweybeach.com.

Cape school board meets Dec. 12

The Cape Henlopen School District board will meet at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12, at Frederick Thomas Middle School in Lewes. 

The group will discuss a candidates’ forum for the Area C seat, receive a report from the superintendent, receive an update on a request certificate of necessity, discuss fiscal year 2025 major capital project change orders, review financial statements and discuss the final draft of the FY 2025 budget.

Lewes Board of Public Works to meet Dec. 12

The Lewes Board of Public works will hold its monthly meeting at 4 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 12, at city hall.

The agenda includes discussion on allocating additional American Rescue Plan Act funds received from the City of Lewes.

Lewes mayor and city council sets special meeting Dec. 13

Lewes Mayor and City Council will hold a special meeting at 9 a.m., Friday, Dec. 13, at city hall.

They will discuss and possibly take action on the allocation of American Rescue Plan Act funds.

Street closures OK’d for Milton Theatre

At its Dec. 4 meeting, Milton Town Council unanimously approved two requests for street closures on Union Street this summer for Milton Theatre to host concerts at the Quayside Stage and the annual Pride Festival.

Both requests are conditioned on approval from the Delaware Department of Transportation, which has ultimate authority over Union Street. The theater’s first request was to use two parking spaces for a food truck every Thursday for Quayside Stage concerts from May 22 to Sept. 18. 

The second request was to close off a section of Union Street from Chandler Street to Federal Street Saturday, June 14, for the Pride Festival. The closed area will contain food trucks and vendors.

Milton council passes Artesian-related measures

Milton Town Council unanimously passed two memorandums of understanding with Artesian Wastewater related to the improvements to the Chandler Street wastewater pump station.

Artesian is currently renovating the pump station, and it asked council for memorandums of understanding regarding shared use of a backup generator and access by Delmarva Power for any repairs.

Council tabled a request by Arteisan for changes to easement alignment previously agreed upon before the upgrades to the Chandler Street station. 

The request was tabled for additional review by town officials.
