Portions of Fowler Beach to close March 1

Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge protects nesting shorebirds

Portions of the Fowler Beach area of Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge, which include the bay beach, dunes and back-barrier portions, will close Saturday, March 1, for the benefit of federally and state-protected beach-nesting and migratory shorebird species including red knot, piping plover, oystercatcher and least tern.

When exploring Prime Hook NWR beaches during beach-nesting bird season, visitors are reminded to obey all posted signs and barriers. Dog walking is prohibited.

These area restrictions are subject to change and/or modification at any time.

The beach area will reopen for full visitor use Wednesday, Oct. 1.
