Rise Against Hunger event a success

March 20, 2025

Grace United Methodist Church of Millsboro, in collaboration with Rise Against Hunger, held the third annual Community Wide Food Packaging Event March 8 at Sussex Central High School in Georgetown.

About 350 volunteers packaged 80,068 meals heading to South Sudan. Having packed just shy of their anticipated 100,000-meal goal, the groups still have bragging rights, as they were 20 volunteers short, but beat last year’s total by 5,068 meals.

“This is the third year we’ve opened this up to the whole Sussex community. In those past three years, we have packed approximately 250,000 meals,” said Mike Hall, who facilitates the event with his wife Judy.

Financial support for the food and shipping costs to get meals to needy children was provided by Grace United Methodist Church, Millsboro; St. John's United Methodist Church, Seaford; Mountaire; Community Bank Delaware; Long Neck, Georgetown-Millsboro and Lewes-Rehoboth Beach Rotary Clubs, and the GFWC Women's Club of Indian River.
