I believe Kyle Schwarber should replace the injured Bryce Harper as the Phillies’ representative for the All-Star game. Schwarber has had an amazing last two months. He is now leading the National League in home runs with 27, and he is now carrying the entire Phillies team on his back offensively. I know Bryce Harper has had a very successful season so far, but I think it would be really anti-climactic and a waste of time if he just shows up and doesn’t play. I don’t know what MLB will do in this situation, but they will have to decide in the next week.
In some unfortunate news from Wimbledon, Rafael Nadal had to withdraw from the semifinals after he aggravated an abdominal injury that makes it difficult for him to serve without pain. He beat the last American in the men’s draw, Taylor Fritz, in an exciting five-set match. As a result of Rafael having to withdraw, Nick Kyrgios from Australia received a walk over into the finals. I will be rooting for his opponent, either Novak Djokovic or Cam Norrie, to win because of Nick's incredibly negative attitude.
On the women’s side, the finals will be between two newcomers to this opportunity. One being Ons Jabeur from Tunisia and the other being Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan. This will just be a fun final to watch to see who wins for the women.
Next week is a big week in men’s golf because it is the 150th British Open. It will be held at the Old Course at St. Andrew’s. This course was the first 18-hole course in the world. They have been playing some form of golf there since the late 1400s! The first British Open that was played there was in 1875, and over the years, there’s been more than 20 Open tournaments contested there. For next week’s tournament, I hope the weather isn’t perfect because if it is most players will dominate the course. Since the course is built into the actual town, they cannot make it much longer. In good weather, four greens can be driven from the tee. It is always a wonderful place to see golf played.
