Seashore Classic 5K, Half Marathon set for May 1
The Beacon Middle School track and field team traveled north to Smyrna to take on the Eagles April 20. Both Beacon teams were victorious with identical scores of 66.5 -42.5.
The highlight of the day was the boys’ team that broke three school records and tied a fourth record on its way to winning 10 events over Smyrna’s three.
Eighth grade distance runner Jake Bamforth remains undefeated in the 1,600 meters as he broke his own record again with a new time of 5:14.3. He also won the 800 meters in 2:27.2 and took third in the triple jump at 28-feet-11 1/2-inches.
Amir Conley won three events for 15 points as he tied the school record in the 100 in 12.3, won the long jump at 16-1, and won the 400 in 57.4, just missing the school record of 57.0 set in 2004.

Mud Run wrap
By now everyone is cleaned up from last week’s Downstate Delaware Dirty Dozen Mud Run held in Milton where 375 rough and tough participants took to the 4.77-mile course for challenges that left them muddy, bruised, wet, and in some cases, bloody. Most people would hate the event, but the participants loved the whole experience. The Seashore Striders received more than 100 emails, 800 Facebook friend requests, 3,200 web picture page hits and 50 text messages before the weekend was over. My boss, Fredman, headlined his column that I lost my mind after he received a personal pre-race tour of the course on the back of the Jerry Medd quad. What a great event that several people outside the Seashore Striders and Quest Fitness family volunteered for and helped make happen. Thanks to all of you and keep an eye out for Mud Run II.
