Sensor problem causes Milton water outage

November 14, 2024

Twice in a week, the Town of Milton found itself dealing with water outages.

On Nov. 13, there was a water main break in the area of the Food Lion shopping center at the corner of Route 16 and Union Street Extended. The loss of water was mainly limited to the shopping center. Milton officials said the problem was due to a faulty valve that was excavated during construction of the new McDonald’s restaurant. The issue required a minor repair, and water service was restored after a few hours.

Five days earlier, Nov. 8, a pressure sensor went bad and caused a townwide outage. Town Manager Kristy Rogers said the problem was fixed within an hour. The water pressure issue was townwide, and was severe enough that it was reported on the town’s Code Red alert system on the town website.

Mayor John Collier said both outages would not require long-term fixes.

Editor’s note: There was a typo in the earlier version of this story. Mayor John Collier said the issue would not require long-term fixes.
