Sussex County administrator tapped for governor-elect committee

Gov.-elect Matt Meyer announced a series of transition committees Nov. 19, including one headed by the Sussex County administrator.

“We understand that there are people who should be on a transition committee who are not, and for that reason, all of the meetings will be open to the public. We actively encourage public comment throughout the process, and I almost think that someone who’s not on a committee can have as much role in building a transition report as someone who is on a committee,” Meyer said.

The committees have been created to put forth policy to help start delivering results for Delaware when Meyer takes office Tuesday, Jan. 21.

The four committees are Education and Livelihoods; Sustainable Systems and Resilient Communities; Governance, Innovation and Operational Excellence; and Care and Community Actions.

Heading Sustainable Systems and Resilient Communities is Sussex County Administrator Todd Lawson.

“We’re going to be handling agriculture, housing, environment and transportation. All very important issues to the state and to Gov.-elect Meyer,” Lawson said.

Joining him on the committee are former Delaware Department of Transportation Secretary Jennifer Cohan, and former Dover City Manager Tony DePrima.

Lawson said the committee will use a diverse group of volunteers to develop recommendations for Meyer. 

“These issues we are tasked with reviewing are critical to the future of our state, and we understand the importance of our mission,” Lawson said. “We look forward to delivering a robust list of policy recommendations for the governor-elect and his team.”

Meyer said he is working through his cabinet picks. “We’re not in a rush, and we’re going to pick the right people,” he said.
