Sussex County Genealogical Society to meet Feb. 15
At its January meeting, the Sussex County Genealogical Society celebrated 20 years of doing family history together.
President Virginia Catley described the the group’s origins in Rehoboth Beach, led by founder Pat Bray in 2004, and its growth over the years. She outlined a variety of programs and activities the members have developed. A cake decorated with the society logo and a board displaying some highlights of the group’s history added to the event.
Uniting Past Lives with Future Generations is the society’s vision.
Additional officers are Adeline Hart, vice president; Maureen Miller, secretary; and Margaretta Dory, treasurer. Currently, the club has 97 members from nine states doing research on ancestors all over the world.
The society meets monthly, maintains a Facebook page, produces a newsletter and hosts a website at scgsdelaware.org. Members also provide genealogist-in-residence services at the Lewes History Museum and the Laurel Public Library to assist people in doing research on their families.
The next general meeting is set for 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 15, at Lewes Public Library and via Zoom. Speaking remotely will be Pamela Guye Holland, a professional genealogist in Swampscott, Mass., who specializes in Irish and genetic genealogy. She will speak about Irish immigration routes. All members and guests must register at lewes.lib.de.us and find the meeting date under Events.
