Theater builds confidence for Cape student

March 18, 2025

For many high schoolers, March is the season of standardized testing and stress. It values rote memorization, with little room for creativity. However, March is also Theatre in Our Schools Month. Theater is a haven for creative minds and a perfect place to relax from the stressors of school. Theatre in Our Schools Month brings theater to the forefront, allowing all students a space for self-expression and developing confidence.

The benefits of theater are not limited to the stage. I have participated in the lights and sound crews throughout my entire high school career. Freshman year, I was a shy individual; unsure of all the new changes in my life. As I became more confident running the equipment, I became more confident in myself. When underclassmen began to join the crew, I developed leadership skills that I couldn’t have learned elsewhere. Now, in my junior year, I have come so far from the person I was during my first year of high school. I have theater to thank for this change.

Theater in our schools allows the community to appreciate theater, and students to find their voice within it. Share your school theater thoughts with #TheatreInOurSchools.
