Warm coat distribution for veterans in progress

February 19, 2025

As the forecast calls for more snow and cold winter weather, the Delaware chapter of the National Association for Black Veterans and the Delaware conference of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People have launched a rapid-response coat distribution for veterans.

Working with community partners, the organizations are ensuring Delaware’s veterans receive brand-new coats without delay. Veterans in need of a coat should check with local shelters, VA centers and churches in their area, as distribution is continuing while supplies last.

“The NAACP has always stood on the front lines of civil rights and social justice for all, including those who put their lives on the line for this country,” said Fleur McKendell, president of the Delaware NAACP. “Justice isn’t a privilege; it’s a demand. And that demand includes making sure no veteran is left out in the cold. This isn’t charity; it’s a commitment to dignity, respect and the protection they deserve.”

Commander Rodney Little, Delaware NABVETS president, said, “Too many of us are left to fight battles at home – against the cold, against homelessness, against neglect. This isn’t just a coat drive; it’s a statement that we will show up for our own, just as we showed up for this country.”
