The 92nd annual Lewes Christmas Parade organizers announced no more than 100 entrants will be permitted to register for this year’s event.
Preregistration is required; for more information, call 302-645-8073. Registered entrants will be notified of their number and arrival time by mail the week before the parade.
The Lewes Police Department is limiting the number of entries in the interest of managing public safety.
The parade will step off at 5 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7, from Lewes Elementary School parking lot on Savannah Road. The route will progress down Savannah to Second Street, ending in front of King’s Ice Cream shop. In case of inclement weather, the parade will be held at the same time Sunday, Dec. 8.
Celebrating an Old-Fashioned Christmas in Lewes is the theme.
The parade organizing committee is co-chaired by Craig Beebe of NextHome Tomorrow Realty and G.W. Thompson of NerdsToGo.
In recognition of its numerous projects that have maintained and enhanced the local quality of life for 25 years, the Greater Lewes Foundation has been selected as this year’s honorary grand marshal. Representing GLF in the parade will be board members Hugh Leahy, treasurer, and the Hon. James L. Ford III, chair of its Open Space Alliance.
Serving as parade judges will be GLF board members Chris Rausch, Cape Gazette publisher; Danielle Swallow, Delaware Sea Grant coastal hazards specialist; and Terri Malewski, board secretary. Jim Smith, a Lewes Chamber of Commerce board member, and Mike DiPaolo with the Delaware Community Foundation will reprise their roles as parade co-announcers.
