East of the River to take Coastal Concerts stage April 5

April 2, 2025

Coastal Concerts announced East of the River will perform at 5 p.m., Saturday, April 5, at Bethel United Methodist Church hall, Fourth and Market streets, Lewes.

Founded by internationally renowned recorder players Nina Stern and Daphna Mor, the group is known for exploring haunting and virtuosic melodies from the traditional repertoires of the Balkans, Armenia and the Middle East, as well as gems of the Medieval European classical repertory.

Stern and Mor will be joined by three other accomplished musical artists.

Offered as a gift from two musicians whose lifework they represent, the selections for this performance are taken largely from the vast range of Sephardi song – stories and dances, prayers and anthems. “Sephardic music” can refer simply to practices adopted by Jewish communities scattered worldwide after their expulsion from Spain and Portugal in the 1490s, but its roots stretch back much further.

The pieces are arranged and interpreted by musicians whose musical backgrounds include classical music, world music and jazz.
