Seaside Jewish Community to host interfaith events May 2-4
Seaside Jewish Community will host a weekend of music, stories and education that bridge the gap between Judaism and Christianity from Friday to Sunday, May 2 to 4. The public is welcome.
Special guests Rabbi David Zaslow and Devorah Zaslow are widely known in Jewish and interfaith circles for their spiritual leadership, singing and storytelling.
Rabbi Zaslow has been the spiritual leader of Havurah Shir Hadash synagogue in Ashland, Ore., since 1996. The prayerbook he edited, “Ivdu et Hashem B'simcha,” is used in synagogues throughout the country. He also has published several other books.
Devorah Zaslow also is an author. She has published several books and has had stories published in anthologies. She has her own blog and teaches writing.
The Zaslows will participate in Seaside’s Shabbat services at 7:30 p.m., Friday, and 10 a.m., Saturday, May 3, at 18970 Holland Glade Road, Rehoboth Beach.
Reservations are required at seasidejewishcommunity.com.
In addition to the religious observances, the Zaslows will participate in two community events, one in partnership with Groome Church in Lewes, and a second in partnership with Lewes Public Library.
An evening of interfaith stories and songs is set for 7:30 p.m., May 3, at Groome Church, 601 Savannah Road, Lewes. Reservations are required at seasidejewishcommunity.com.
The rabbi will discuss his book, "Jesus: First-Century Rabbi," at 11 a.m., Sunday, May 4, at Lewes Public Library, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes, and online via Zoom. In the book, Zaslow takes a fresh, bold look at the historical Jesus and the Jewish roots of Christianity. Registration is required through the library’s website at delawarelibraries.libcal.com/event/14145560.
“I’m looking forward to an uplifting and inspirational weekend,” said Julie Hilton Danan, Seaside rabbi. “The Zaslows have so many amazing and unique stories and songs to share with everyone from a long career and calling of leadership, both in the Jewish community, and as pioneers of interfaith dialogue and connections.”
