As I prepare to retire after 34 years in education – 13 of which I’ve had the honor to serve as superintendent of the Cape Henlopen School District – I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to every member of this incredible community.
The success of our district has never been about one person, one program or one moment. It has always been about us – working together. The strength of Cape Henlopen lies in the powerful partnerships between our schools and our community. Parents, local businesses, civic leaders and volunteers have stood by us, lending their time, resources and hearts to help support our mission of educating and uplifting every student.
Over the past 13 years, we’ve experienced remarkable growth – adding more than 1,800 students to our district. We’ve achieved academic milestones that place our students above their peers across the state and beyond. We’ve expanded our curriculum to include language immersion, ensuring nearly half of our students will enter high school bilingual. We’ve built and renovated schools to create safe, inspiring environments for learning and, together, we navigated the challenges of a global pandemic, always putting our students and families first.
Additionally, so many of our students have been recognized for their achievement in various academic areas, for their community service and for their incredible talents in our visual or performing arts programs. So many of our students also excel in our athletic programs with many individual state championships and nearly 40 state championship teams in the past 13 years alone.
These successes belong to all of us.
On behalf of our staff and students, thank you. Your support has helped shape the district we are today – one that fosters excellence, inclusion, innovation and pride.
And while I am proud of what we’ve accomplished, I’m even more excited about what lies ahead. With our extraordinary students, talented and dedicated staff, and a community that truly cares, the future of Cape Henlopen is limitless.
With deepest appreciation,
