Crazy endings!
This is going to be short and sweet, folks, as I am still perfecting my Best Man's speech for my twin brother's wedding this weekend. And it sure was nice of him and his bride to plan the wedding for a weekend when there is no significant golf to watch!
Well, the Philadelphia Eagles had no business winning the Monday night game against the Indianapolis Colts. The first half game plan was very confusing and the plays seemed to have them running sideways instead of straight up the field. At the end of the first half with the score 17- 6 in favor of the Colts, my best guess is there was a lot of yelling going on in the locker room. The second half was a whole lot better, and the offensive line stepped up and did a very good job. The Colts could have ended the game in the fourth quarter but they gave us a second chance when Andrew Luck threw an interception with four minutes left in the game. The Eagles took complete advantage and won the game with a last-second field goal as time expired. The game against the Washington Redskins next week is an important one since it's the first game in the division.
I support the seven-game suspension of Phillies closer Jonathan Papelbon for his ridiculous actions towards the fans. But Major League Baseball took it a step further and suspended the umpire Joe West for one game because he grabbed Papelbon's jersey. The MLB acted swiftly on the actions regarding Papelbon, but the same could not be said about the suspension of Joe West. Many times you see the umpires overstepping their authority and no punishment is handed down. As time goes on, I get more and more frustrated with Papelbon for messing up the Phillies momentum. If we had won that game, the Phillies would have swept the Marlins in the series, but they have proceeded to lose the first two games against San Diego as a result.
This past weekend was the second annual Dragonboat races in Lewes on the canal to raise money for the Sussex Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Canalfront Park. I don't get to go to too many local events because of my cumbersome wheelchair and accessibility issues, but the way the park has been set up made it pretty doable. The weather was so good that everyone got sunburned, myself included! The races were a lot of fun to watch and they were close. I think the winners were more about the luck of the lane drawn and the flow of the tide, but the efforts of all the teams was impressive. It was a great way to close the summer season.
