Not again!
The Eagles cannot keep playing careless and weak first halves of their games and think that they will have any chance come playoff time. Once again their defense was nonexistent in the first half! They can't be expecting the offense to have to score 30 points every game in order to win. The cheap shot on quarterback Nick Foles by Chris Baker (a Washington defensive lineman) seems to have been the galvanizing moment that woke up the team. The final score was 37-34. Another close call! I hope they can play a better game on the road against a tough NFC West opponent, the San Francisco 49ers, this weekend.
Golf's Ryder Cup is being played this week in Scotland and the European team is a slight favorite to win the matches. The key for the U.S. team is to draw even or be winning at the end of the first matches so that they can control the home crowd noise and possibly get some fan base of its own. In previous years, the beginning of the tournament was always seen on ESPN, but this year the TV coverage will be on the Golf Channel starting on Friday and NBC on the weekend. It will actually start at 2:30 a.m., which I will not be watching, but will definitely be looking for it after breakfast on Friday! The Ryder Cup is my favorite golf event to watch because it makes golf much more of a team sport. Go USA.
The Phillies season ends Sunday and I am actually happy about this so that the frustration can quiet down and we can all hope for a fresh start next year. Retooling the roster with younger players is what I hope to see. Which leaves in question Ryan Howard and Jonathan Papelbon. Howard needs to be on an American League team to help restart his career as a designated hitter and Papelbon could be traded to any team willing to take him. It will be interesting to see the moves that the front office makes during the offseason to get them ready for next year. Go Phils! I will look forward to spring training.
