Ups and downs
UGH! The Philadelphia Eagles lost for the second time last Sunday and the last few plays of the game were even more frustrating than their first loss against the San Francisco 49ers. The Eagles could have secured a win by scoring a touchdown from the 2-yard-line with less then two minutes left in the game! But NO! That did not happen. Instead, they screwed up and were forced to kick a field goal, which left the door wide open for the Arizona Cardinals and their powerful offense to score a crushing winning touchdown. The week was not all bad for the Eagles though, thanks to the Washington Redskins stepping up and surprising the Dallas Cowboys by handing them their second loss with a great win in overtime. Thank you, Washington! Hopefully the Eagles can get over this second loss and beat a mediocre but dangerous Houston Texans team on Sunday.
I usually don't talk about professional football except for the Eagles and their division opponents, but I have to bring up the crazy ending in the game between the Atlanta Falcons and the Detroit Lions that was played last Sunday in London, England. A ridiculous rule was the reason why Detroit eventually won the game. With less than 10 seconds on the clock, Detroit was trying to win the game with a field goal try. Detroit was flagged for delay of game at the same time their field goal kicker missed the field-goal attempt. This would have resulted in Atlanta winning the game. Instead, Detroit was moved back 5 yards and this time the kick was good. In my not so humble opinion, the game should have been declared over with Atlanta the winner. It makes no sense to me why Detroit was able to take the field goal attempt again since they caused the penalty in the first place.
And this year's baseball season has come to a close. The San Francisco Giants have earned the title of Major League Baseball's World Series Champions. This series could have been called the Madison Bumgarner show. Bumgarner, the Giants' 25-year-old pitcher, was the main reason the Giants won in seven games. He won game one, five, and seven for the Giants. The World Series hasn't gone to seven games in 12 years, and the Giants were in the last one, but lost to the Anaheim Angels. In this last game, Bumgarner secured his legacy as a great postseason pitcher by shutting down the Kansas City Royals for five innings out of the bullpen. Even though I was rooting for Kansas City to win, I am not that upset that the Giants won. They are pretty close to a modern-day dynasty, having won three times in the last five years. But now that it's all over, I can look towards next year to see what my Philadelphia Phillies will do to keep me cheering them on.
