Mary Masser will be missed
Mary Masser from Edgewater, Md., and Lewes passed away last Sunday as she had been battling this winter with atrial fibrillation and lymphedema. Mary is the wife of Dr. Lee Masser, the road race legend that everyone loves. Not many races go by without mentioning Dr. Lee Masser’s name somewhere in conversation. Mary was a caring, loving, person that was super supportive of the road race scene and of her husband’s hobby and passion. Many times over the years Mary would sit in the car and read her book while Doc was on the starting line ready to race a 5K or 10K race. I used to joke with Mary that when she would send Doc out for milk and bread and he would return 90 minutes later that meant he was able to find a 5K while he was out. Mary never missed the Masser 5 Miler, which kicks off the Seashore Strider Summer Racing Series in May. She would show up with Doc first thing in the morning, organizing T-shirts, checking in runners and greeting runners with a beautiful smile first thing in the morning. The Strider races will miss Mary Masser, but you can bet that she will be looking down making sure Doc’s race number is on straight and he stays hydrated from start to finish.
