Out of the blue!
The Phillies have now won seven out of the last nine games on their latest road trip out to Arizona and Colorado! We will see if they can continue this momentum for the rest of the road trip in Washington and New York, who are better competition, and bring some of that winning attitude back to Philly.
The three keys to the slight resurgence have been the much improved performances by Ryan Howard and Chase Utley. There's also been much more consistent pitching and last, but not least, the emergence of third-baseman prospect Miguel Franco.
Just in case you forgot how bad it got for the Phillies, as of 10 days ago, they had the worst record in baseball. Now they aren't even in last place in their division. Baby steps people, baby steps!
The NBA draft lottery was held earlier this week and the 76ers were lucky enough to receive the third pick. I am actually very happy with this result because it probably means the front office will not be tempted to trade one of their young centers. By the time the third pick comes around, the top two players (who are both centers) Okafor and Towns, will have already been picked.
To build the team, I hope they select D'Angelo Russell from Ohio State to play point guard, along with their two other high draft picks from the last two years, Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid.
In golf, Rory McIlroy won the Wells Fargo Championship by seven shots. He is now approaching the domination level that Tiger Woods had in the game of golf in the early 2000's. Rory has won two of the last three tournaments he has entered. It will be interesting to see just how long he can keep up this pace. Tiger did it for 6 to 8 years... We will see what happens!
