That's why they play the games!
So much for all the hype. Roberta Vinci beat Serena Williams in one of the most surprising upsets in sports history given what was on the line. The result was way up there with Jack Fleck beating Ben Hogan in the 1955 US Open golf tournament, or the US beating Russia in the 1980 Olympic Ice Hockey tournament.
I think it will be pretty hard for Ms. Williams to recover from this to win any other tournaments this year. I do sincerely hope this is not going to be the last chapter in her Hall of Fame career. Flavia Pennetta, who ultimately won the tournament, pulled a "Pete Sampras" and announced her retirement right after the match. That was a very fitting ending to a very intriguing tournament for the women.
On the men's side, Novak Djokovic beat Roger Federer in a very exciting four set match after both had to endure a three hour rain delay. Thankfully, this will be the last ever rain delay in the final match in US Open tennis history. The Arthur Ashe Stadium will have a completed roof structure for next year's tournament.
Hopefully Roger Federer will have another chance to win a major, but it is getting less and less likely. Come on Roger, you can do this!
The Eagles game was incredibly disappointing to watch! It was like they forgot to start playing until the second half and were down 20 to 3 as a result. In the second half, they showed how potent their offense can be, coming all the way back to take the lead in the fourth quarter. Chip Kelly blew the last part of the game by not taking one of his three timeouts to think about his options on third and fourth down during the second to last drive.
If the Eagles don't start playing until the second half against Dallas they will be going 0-2 and making all us Eagles fans have a lot of worrying to do for the rest of the season.
